How I Became Selfmade
My Review of Brit + Co’s Selfmade Entrepreneurial Program
I was in the corporate world for 15 years, with a decade spent in the media and entertainment industry. I was fortunate to work with amazing colleagues at some of the biggest film and television studios in the world. But at the end of 2019, I was laid off.
I could have looked at this situation as one full of uncertainty. Rather, I chose to take this as an OPPORTUNITY—a chance to step back, think about life, and what I truly wanted for it.
There were many paths I could’ve taken after being laid off, but I decided to follow the one that I was the most excited about, yet also the scariest and most unknown to me: ENTREPRENEURSHIP.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a deep desire to create something for myself that served others. I didn’t know exactly what it was, but I could feel this THING in me that needed to be discovered, nurtured, and shared. You might have that same feeling, too.
After I was laid off, I committed to finding that THING and creating my own opportunity. Rather than worry about my situation, I decided that I could control it. I had the chance to create my dream job and build the life and work I had always envisioned for myself.
But I knew I needed help.
And that’s when Brit Morin’s Selfmade entrepreneurial program popped into my life.
Through Selfmade, I was able to take my dreams and clarify my vision. In 10 weeks! I joined knowing very basic things: I wanted to create a life that involved storytelling, representation, and FOOD. And Selfmade helped me figure out how to create a business built on these passions and my values.
I had never taken an online course like this before, so I did a lot of research and compared it with other similar offerings. But nothing else matched the line-up of incredible coaches and guest teachers. The curriculum was also very impressive, and I appreciated the structure and the sequence of topics during the 10 weeks. In addition to addressing mindset, the program covered a range of business topics, including fundraising, marketing and legal. (Yes, we even talked about taxes!)
I enrolled in the program in October 2020—and long story short, I launched Yumday’s online snack box service in January 2021. This was the best investment I had ever made in myself!
Yes, it felt risky to invest $2,000. But it was worth it. (And I truly believe the program is worth so much more than that!)
In addition to gaining the clarity I needed, I was able to get so much valuable information from the weekly lessons, working sessions, 1:1 coaching with my own dedicated coach—as well as with Brit. Plus, I was part of a community of female founders who understood and cared about each other’s entrepreneurial journeys. (We still stay in touch and serve as accountability partners for one another even today!)
I was surrounded with the support I needed to launch the business of my dreams.
What makes Selfmade so unique, you ask?
ACCESS TO BRIT is hands down one of the main things that makes this program so special. It's not a recording of herself teaching you business, you get to learn from her live every week together with other business experts. You also get the chance to join a small group mentoring sessions with her & she's also available through the DMs! She's beyond generous with her time and truly cares about her students success.
The AMAZING COMMUNITY of diverse women. From the mentors & guest teachers to the community of like-minded women. As a WOC I really appreciate being part of a community where diversity is not only included, but celebrated. Also, getting to meet like-minded women is everything as you're starting and/or growing your business.
LIVE SESSIONS make this program so unique. The live factor makes this experience so much exciting, especially having live support as you go through the content. Replays are always available in case you can't make it live.
MENTORSHIP from 1:1 and group sessions led by business coaches is a great perk. You not only get support by the amazing Selfmade admin team, but you get assigned to a personal coach that has your back day-after-day and through weekly implementation sessions. You also get the opportunity to meet other coaches through the 10-week program.
I want to see you succeed!
I’ve learned that accountability is key to make the best out of your investment. Having weekly calls with my coaching group kept me on track, and continuing those check-ins after the program with my fellow entrepreneurs has helped me to grow my business.
Join Selfmade through my link and get weekly accountability calls and ongoing support from me through a small private Facebook group.
I want you to be able to experience the same results that I got out of Selfmade, so for the 10-week duration of the program, I’ll be in our private Facebook group every day answering any questions you may have so that you never feel blocked and stop taking action.
It’ll also be a great place to get encouragement from the rest of the group and to hold each other accountable. (Did you know that we’re 40% more likely to take action if we share our goals with someone else?)
I also believe there is incredible power in group calls since someone else’s questions can also be your own!
The other great thing that happens when you’re part of an intimate group like this is that you not only form new relationships but are more likely to take action and feel supported during the process.
