How far would you drive for popcorn?

I drove 92 miles.

Yesterday (January 19th) was National Popcorn Day, and as the founder of Yumday, it's my duty to celebrate food holidays LIKE A BOSS. So over the weekend, I drove to Fredericksburg, Texasβ€”home of Big Pop's Popcorn Companyβ€”to shop for gourmet popcorn. That's right. I drove 92 miles to a small town in Texas to shop at an old fashioned candy shop known for its flavored popcorn (and fudge bar!).

Was it worth the trek? Um, YES.

Big Pop's has nearly 50 flavors of popcorn, all made in-house daily. In addition to serving up more traditional flavors like butter and caramel popcorn, the shop has a wide variety of sweet, savory, and even spicy popcorn flavors. I'm definitely more of a savory and spicy popcorn person, so I immediately locked in on the bacon cheddar and jalapeño cheese popcorn. I mean, who doesn't love cheesy popcorn??? But I also wanted something a little wild and crazy, so I had to grab a bag of the "cornfetti" popcorn, which is basically popcorn for unicorns. The cornfetti is a sweet, candied popcorn the comes in all the colors of the rainbow! πŸŒˆπŸ¦„

There were so many flavors to choose from, it took a lot of willpower to limit myself to three bags on this visit. I'm excited to come back though because I'm very eager to try the birthday cake popcorn, the parmesan garlic popcorn, and the Dr. Pepper popcorn (just to name a few of Big Pop's specialty flavors). ✨🍿✨

Hope everyone had a great National Popcorn Day! And if you want to keep up with all of the interesting food holidays in 2020, be sure to follow Yumday on Instagram (@yumdayco).

P.P.S. Fredericksburg, TX is a cute small town with German roots and home to more than 50 wineries, as well as many adorable boutiques and restaurants. 😍 I'm looking forward to more daytrips to Fredericksburg for wine tasting, German baked goods, and boutique shopping!
