CSA 2015: Week 1

Rejoice! CSA season is here, and today was my first pickup from the Colvin Family Farm at the Dixie Lee Farmers Market in Farragut, TN. Today’s bounty included:

  • Hakurei turnips (little white Japanese turnips that are “super kawaii!”)
  • Radishes
  • Swiss chard
  • Russian red kale
  • Bok choy (x2)
  • Romaine lettuce (x2)
  • Green garlic

My favorite part of being a CSA shareholder is being introduced to new (new-to-me) produce from my farm and researching and discovering recipes. I recently downloaded The New York Times Cooking app onto my iPhone, and I’m really looking forward to using it — along with my other favorite food/recipe apps, cookbooks, websites, blogs, and culinary magazines. Plus, it’s always great to learn from other CSA shareholders and hear/read about ways they’re using the veggies in their weekly shares.
