Still Life at Home
Austin, TX

Still life photographs created in a style inspired by Old Masters paintings

Creating still life sets at home has become one of my pandemic projects. During this time, I challenged myself to use light in interesting ways. I’ve always been fascinated by chiaroscuro technique, and I love Old Masters. But I’m not a painter, so I thought that it would be a great exercise to create photography that captured the essence of Old Masters paintings.

All of these photographs were taken using a small backdrop, natural light from different windows, sometimes a small Lume Cube light panel for more dramatic shadows, long exposures, and any props I could find around the house. (More photos on Instagram.)

There are no rules, only tools.
